Objectives for module 9: Haemophilus and Bordetella
Upon completion of this part, students should be able to:
- Describe Haemophilus and Bordetella and list their pathogenic species;
- Describe the mode of transmission, clinical findings, the morphology and identification (diagnostic tests) for each of the pathogenic species of Haemophilus and Bordetella;
- List some effective antibiotics against each of these species.
Components: lectures (see below); online exercises and feedback form plus innovation, creativity and the use of higher-order thinking patterns (see below):
Lecture 1: Bordetella
Salam Everyone,
PCR has best sensitivity for detecting Bordetella during first 3 weeks of cough when bacterial DNA is present in respiratory secretions
Please add your comments, news, information about the module here in ENGLISH..
Thanks your and Good Luck
Best wishes
Salam Dr. Alqumber
Thank you doctor.
Toll-like receptor 4 orchestrates neutrophil recruitment into airways during early infection by Bordetella pertussis http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1286457913001251 …
Dear (خالد جمعان),
This is an article about the immune response against B. pertussis. Toll-like receptors are very important in the early response against bacterial infections.

Seroprevalence of Bordetella pertussis in the Mexican population: a cross-sectional study. http://wp.me/p2Mn1H-fS
Dear students,
note that Bordetella pertussis is increasing due to poor vaccinations sometimes. Adherence to DTPa vaccine is very important to control this disease.

Like you sad doctor:
I find this:
Nasopharyngeal colonization by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae is not low:-

They are very where bacteira
Yes, bacteria are everywhere and they are in very high numbers. Some can cause serious diseases and some are commensals, symbionts, saprophytes and beneficial

A novel method for evaluating natural and vaccine induced serological responses to Bordetella pertussis antigens. http://wp.me/p2Mn1H-fM
Dear Wael Al-Malki and all students
Can an one tell me why we need to evaluate natural and vaccine induced serological responses to Bordetella pertussis ??
Hello everyone,
I find this:

Dear (سامي علي),
This is increasing the importance of this pathogen, the need for vaccination and better diagnostic and treatment strategies.

Thank you dr.alqumber
now I know what is the (التحصين الثلاثي البكتيري) DTPa form you teaching
salam everyone…
here is the Bordetella genome
http://www.sanger.ac.uk/resources/downloads/bacteria/bordetella.html
Why we need this genome?
Dear (The thunder) and (مصطفي خابر),
we need the genome for many reasons, including understanding the biology, virulence factors, protein structure, evolutions, toxins ..etc of the bacteria to be able to control, prevent and treat it using better vaccines, antibiotics ,,etc

this is evolution way. antibiotic resistance and virulence
True.
Well done.
and therefore we need to keep studying the evolution of the bacteria and to able to use effective vaccines and antibiotics against them.

Hello,
we need new vaccines for new strains?
right!
Dear Students,
We always need to keep an eye on the bacteria and make our vaccines compatible with the type of strains in circulation. This is why the flu vaccine is for different strain every year.
