Objectives for module 9: Haemophilus and Bordetella

Upon completion of this part, students should be able to:

  • Describe Haemophilus and Bordetella and list their pathogenic species;
  • Describe the mode of transmission, clinical findings, the morphology and identification (diagnostic tests) for each of the pathogenic species of Haemophilus and Bordetella;
  • List some effective antibiotics against each of these species.

    PCR has best sensitivity for detecting Bordetella during first 3 weeks of cough when bacterial DNA is present in respiratory secretions

      This is an article about the immune response against B. pertussis. Toll-like receptors are very important in the early response against bacterial infections.

        we need the genome for many reasons, including understanding the biology, virulence factors, protein structure, evolutions, toxins ..etc of the bacteria to be able to control, prevent and treat it using better vaccines, antibiotics ,,etc
